Tales from the Cryptographer

That's Punny reader Lance has this delightful history to add:

Kernal Fabyan's Gourmet Popcorn Shoppe is a punny tribute to one of the Fox Valley's most famous and eccentric historical figures.

Colonial George Fabyan made a fortune in cloth and than decided to buy a farmhouse along the Fox River and have Frank Lloyd Wright redesign it entirely. He spent the rest of his days trying to prove his theory that a cryptological code in Shakespeare proved that many of his plays were actually written by Francis Bacon. While that proved to be false, he came to be the nation's foremost expert and employer of cryptographers and his staff was invaluable to breaking code in both World Wars. He also invested a lot of time in collecting Japanese artifacts and at least one mummy. He also kept two bears and a troupe of trained monkeys on his estate.

I almost forgot to mention his Anti-Gravity machine. Yeah, he tried to build one based on sonic properties.

Here's more about Fabyan
